Because cosiness and sustainability are both important to GBO, this year’s Christmas tree is an adopted one! The tree has been temporarily moved from the Belgian Ardennes to our office to provide us with that nice warm Christmas atmosphere. After the holidays it will be (re)planted in the area of Francorchamps so it can grow in all glory till Christmas 2010 (and beyond!).

GBO will present its work in Kortrijk on the 8., 9. and 10. of December at DESIGN at WORK 09. DESIGN at WORK 09 is an international trade show for product development, design, innovative materials, products and services. Companies with a focus on innovation and product development or those which would like to launch an innovative product, are welcome to this exhibition platform.
For the first time we present ourselves in a collaboration with competitors in the light of the founding of the Belgian vVio, the Flamish Association of Belgian Design Bureaus.

At the Medica exhibition in Düsseldorf, our client GymnaUniphy has successfully introduced the by GBO designed new generation ShockMaster 500.
Shock Master 500 is the new standard in Shockwave technology for physical therapy and is unique in terms of intuitive handling, usability, functionality and innovation. The Shockwave, originally developed for crushing kidney stones, is now effectively used for rehabilitation, orthopedics and rheumatology.
GBO has worked closely with GymnaUniphy for the development of this newcomer and is particularly proud of their new success! Up.
GBO has helped in the realization of the model for a participant of the TV-show The Best Idea Of The Netherlands (Dutch only). The so-called Tulpi of Marco Manders will be aired next Saturday at 21:30 in the semi-finals on SBS 6.
Tulpi is a folding chair intended for public gardens. It resembles a tulip when it’s folded shut. The seat is designed to stay clean and dry when the chair is closed.
Besides GBO Studio ID and H&S Paint supported the realization of this hi-end prototype.

On the 5th of November the Food For Future congress will take place for the third consecutive year. This year sustainability in the food sector plays a major role: Food 4 Ever. Focus lies on the three P’s (people, planet and profit) of socially responsible companies and builds the core of different presentations of processes, schools and cooperations.
Just like last year GBO is responsible for upgrading the students’ ideas to applicable concepts for the food industry. This year the them for the students is ‘No Food 2 Waste’ or ‘How can we make our food industry more sustainable?’.
Different ideas from preceding editions have received national media attention and have actually found their way to the consumers. Up.
As of next Saturday the Dutch Design Week (DDW) will start again. Besides the exhibition in the ‘Klokgebouw’ GBO will be present at another exhibition during the entire DDW. The exhibition is located at the Nieuwe Emmasingel 36 opposite De Witte Dame. On the exhibition ’Design for Happy Living / Creating a Caring Society’ GBO will display their recently launched Bobike bicycle children’s seat.

From the 17th to the 25th of October the annual Dutch Design Week (DDW) will take place in Eindhoven. Just like previous years, GBO will be represented during this event. We will display products from daily life designed and developed by us in an exhibition in the Klokgebouw.
The goal of the DDW is to improve the climate for design in the region of Eindhoven and to establish it internationally as a design city. Up.
The evening before the largest bicycle fair of the world opened its doors to thousands of visitors, Bobike introduced their two newest bicycle seats. During the 4-day fair these two new models, designed and developed by GBO, were presented to a storm of visitors.
The Bobike Maxi City and Bobike Maxi Tour are innovative child seats with optimized comfort aimed at children aged from 9 months to 6 years. The main target during development was improved security for the child and ease of use for the parents.
The seats will be available from January 2010 in specialized stores. Up.
The Eindhoven-based company iRex Technologies plans to expand business in the U.S.A.. The former Philips daughter has signed a contract with Barnes & Noble, the world’s biggest bookstore.
This is an enormous opportunity for iRex as a producer of electronic book and newspaper reading devices; the deal gives iRex access to more than 750.000 titles. They hope to sell hundreds of thousands of eReaders, amongst them the GBO designed Digital Reader 1000S, in this new market.

From the 25th till the 18th of June the “Week van het Ontwerpen” (Week of designing) will be held in Kortrijk, Belgium. During this event GBO will present 14 recent products. The annual fair establishes Kortrijk as a design region and shows innovation as a strategic key. It’s the place where industry and design education meet in the presence of hundreds of young designers from over 40 design schools. There is also an overview of innovative companies from the area, design agencies and the Industrial Design Center. During the professional day from 13:30 at the 26th of June contacts for the future can be made.

On the 28th of May the non-profit foundation BiELAt (Stichting Business in Eindhoven-Leuven-Aken) organized the entrepreneurs the BiELAt-event for the fourth time. The event took place in the Klokgebouw Strijp-S in Eindhoven and was meant for entrepreneurs from this highly technological region. This year’s theme was ‘The Art of Imagination’.
During the BiELAt-event the results of the ‘Just Imagine’ brainstorms were presented. The brainstorms are an initiative of the BOM (Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij), NV Industriebank LIOF and the province of Noord-Brabant. read more… Up.

GBO will present the ‘new CarvX’ in Milan during the Salone del Mobile 2009. The extreme urban carving machine is nominated for the prestiguous Well-Tech Award and will compete with big names such as Fiat, Pininfarina, Honeywell, Fuseproject, Moroso, Viabizzuno and Driade.
To prepare the bicycle for the Well-Tech Award we have cooperated with Rohloff and Willex to increase comfort (backpacks, new bucket seat), safety (brakes, driving mechanism) and to optimize it’s lightweight structure.

GBO has received a prestigious Red Dot Award for the Vario cupholder from Haval! GBO’s approach to a new cupholder resulted in a simple yet all the more innovative and functional solution. The flowing lines and ergonomic shape of the cupholder create a powerful symbiosis between function and aesthetics.
Innovation gets rewarded, this also goes for Niko. This company earned a Red Dot Award for Mysterious. GBO cooperated with Niko on detailling the product through to developing parts for mass production. read more… Up.
During the annual Paperworld in Frankfurt UHU introduced two new adhesive products; Extra Kraft and Strong & Safe. Both applicators were entirely designed and engineered by GBO.
The Extra Kraft glue-stick can be applied in 4 different manners, which gives the user more control over the amount of glue that is being applied. The Strong & Safe applicator is equipped with a new system which improves the ease of glueing and increases the efficiency of the product.

On the 13th of January 2009 the winners of the Henry van de Velde Design Award were presented in the Flamish Parlament in presence of the Flamish Minister of Business and Economy, Patricia Ceysens.
GBO received this prestigious design label for the Wilnest birdhouse. The competition is called out by Design Flanders, who wants to promote and distinguish well-designed products with an international and official design-quality label.
